Vasile Mosanu

Biographical Notes

Vasile Mosanu was born in Moldova, Eastern Europe. He graduated from the National Art College, Chisinau, Moldova in 1975 and from the Academy of Fine Arts, Tallinn, Estonia in 1981. He practices oil and acrylic painting, stained glass, mural painting, watercolour, pencil and ink drawings.
In Moldova, his art teachers were the famous Igor Vieru, Boris Kolomeets and Valeriu Puscas. In Estonia he was guided by well-known artists Tiit Paasuke (painting) and Dolores Hoffman (stained glass).
Since 1979 he has had numerous exhibitions in Moldova, Russia, Romania, and as far abroad as Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Israel, Letonia, Mexico, Spain, USA, and Estonia. His paintings have been acquired by the Museum of Art in Chisinau, Moldova and by private collectors worldwide. Although his favorite medium is oil on canvas, Vasile has created book illustrations, icons and murals in several Orthodox churches, as well as traditional stained glass, painting on glass and restoration.
For several years, Mr. Mosanu combined painting with teaching as a professor of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chisinau, Moldova. He was involved in developing and designing programs of study for the Academy of Fine Arts, including: composition, the principles of composition, painting and drawing.
Presently he works at Northern Art Glass in Ottawa, Canada where he is able to use his passion to create works of art in stained glass. He is fulfilling his dream of working in classical stained glass and painting on glass. He enjoys participating in the development of design, manufacturing and restoring of stained glass windows in churches and cathedrals in Ottawa, and many other cities throughout Ontario and Quebec.
