Susan Clement-Beveridge

Artist Statement:
" As a Canadian visual artist, native to Ottawa, the arts will always continue to be an important part of my life. My love for painting with acrylic on canvas, my preferred medium, inspires me to use different techniques and tools to create and manipulate the texture, and the depth to produce intriguing focal points in all of my work. It’s the joy, passion and energy I get from the challenge of discovering and creating new ideas that will eventually find its place on my next canvas. I can’t imagine my life without art!!"

Susan Clément-Beveridge is an emerging Canadian visual artist, born & lived in Ottawa most of her life, who went back to drawing and illustrating and now has been painting over the last decade. Since 2010, she is partial to the scenes of Ottawa and the upper valley areas in the region, usually working from her photographs while painting with acrylic. Susan takes pleasure in experimenting with various methods and effects in her acrylic & mixed media art, using a range of techniques and tools, creating appealing textures while periodically applying pen & ink. By 2010, her creativity came in the form of painting portraits (people, animals-pets and musicians). Susan's artwork has now evolved into contemporary mixed media pieces, with hints of realism, while exploring the infinite world of abstract. Her style encompasses on a bold, distinct and colourful palette range, showing depth and expression.
Susan is predominately a self-taught artist and has always had strong ties to the arts, be it visual art, theatre or music. Some of her inspiration comes from the likes of, Gwendolyn Best, Bhat Boy & Jay Anderson, (found in her private collection of pieces), as well as other influential artists such as Christopher Griffin & Philip Craig. The arts have always been a passionate part of her life, transpiring from many forms. Working as a co-op student she used pen-ink and silk screening at the National Postal Museum, to completing a two year Graphic Arts Technician course at Algonquin College, and then later finished courses through the City of Ottawa & Ottawa School of Art, in drawing and sculpture. From 2010 to 2014, she participated in several illustrating webinar courses with award winning artists from Utah, Will Terry (Illustrator/author) and Jake Parker (Illustrator/animator for Ice Age at Blue Sky Studios), through the SVS Society of Visual Storytelling. She also studied watercolour used in illustrating for children's books with Mark G. Mitchell - Art School at the Museum of Art in Austin, Texas. Some of her work is found in private collections across Canada, the US and New Zealand.

"Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make more art!" ~~ Andy Warhol

Exhibits: Susan’s paintings are shown at a number of local Ottawa art venues: Nectar Gallery, The Ottawa Little Theatre, OAA Award Shows, Art in the Park shows, festivals, and local eateries & cafés. She has been commissioned for her work as well.
